This specimen was lot 821 in Jean Elsen list 269 (Brussels, July-August 2014), where it was offered for €700 (about US$952). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Royaume, Friedrich August II (1836-1854), AR Ausbeutetaler, 1838 G, Rare. Superbe (kingdom of Saxony, Frederick August II (1836-54), silver mining thaler of 1838. Rare, extremely fine.)"
This type is noted for 1836-38 and is somewhat scarce. The mintage for 1837 is noted at the improbable figure of 5,770,000.
Recorded mintage: 36,000.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
