Künker sale 400, lot 724

This specimen was lot 724 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €7,500 (about US$9,730 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"IRAN, Mohammed Riza Pahlevi, 1942-1979. 10 Pahlevi 1977 (= 2536 MS), auf den 100. Geburtstag seines Vaters Riza Khan Pahlevi. 73,23 g Feingold. GOLD. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der westfälischen Privatsammlung „Mehrfachportraits auf Münzen und Medaillen". (empire of Iran, Mohammed Riza Pahlavi, 1942-79, ten pahlavis of MS 2536, on the 100th birthday of his father Riza Khan. Extremely fine.)"

The shah was overthrown in 1979 and he died the next year. The "MS" calendar, used briefly in the late seventies, seems to have been tied to the old Persian Empire and not the shah's ancestors, who were nomad bandits.
