Sincona sale 35, lot 5473

This specimen was lot 5473 in Sincona sale 35 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$890 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Zurich | Stadt, Halbdukat 1677. Fast vorzüglich. (city of Zürich, half ducat of 1677. About extremely fine.)"

Half ducats were struck occasionally in Zurich in the seventeenth century. This type is noted for 1671, 1677, 1692 and 1702. Tho not common, they are quite a bit more affordable than ducats or double ducats.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.75 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 1.66 g.

Catalog reference: D.T. 1061b, HMZ 2-1141o. Fr-467.
