This specimen was lot 3148 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$450 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND, Stadt und Kanton Zürich, 20 Schilling (Halbgulden) 1776. Fast FDC. Hübsche Patina. (canton of Zurich, twenty schilling (half gulden) of 1776. About uncirculated, Attractive patina.)"
This type was issued intermittently 1774-80. According to the SCWC, 72 schilling = one thaler so 20 schilling = 5/18 thaler = one gulden. Normally, in southern Germany, one convention thaler = two gulden, making this a quarter thaler. In 1798, the canton of Zurich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.57 g, silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 7.53 g.
