This specimen was lot 33071 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof Piefort Franc 1976 PR67 NGC, . Mintage of 38 pieces. A delightful coin with that is virtually unimprovable." This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1960-2001. Some of the later dates after 1978 are only available from FDC sets. The original Roty design, called La Semeuse, appeared on half, one and two francs of 1898-1920.
Recorded mintage: 192,520,000 for circulation plus 38 pieces in gold.
Specification: 6 g, nickel, 24 mm diameter, after a design by Oscar Roty (1846-1911).
Catalog reference: F.156/21, KM 925.1 (nickel), KM-P556 (gold).
