France 1976 20 centimes
The first specimen was lot 33069 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof Piefort 20 Centimes 1976 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. Mintage of 100 pieces. Essentially a flawless example of the type with dazzling luster." This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1962-2001. Some of the later dates, such as 1998, 1999 and 2001, are only available from FDC sets. This type was accompanied by a similar five, ten and fifty centimes.
Recorded mintage: 117,610,000 for circulation plus 100 pieces in gold.
Specification: 4 g, aluminum-bronze, 23.5 mm diameter, designed by Henri Lagriffoul (1907-81) and Adrien Dieudonné (1912-82).
