The first Irish half pennies, issued 1928-37, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second type, issued 1939-67, merely stated "EIRE." Irish half pennies are common but this date is rare. The first specimen was lot 1761 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (Irvine, July 2011). The second specimen was lot 5768 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $195.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "Ireland. ½ Penny, 1933. Irish harp. Reverse: Sow. Scarce date in mint state condition. NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown."
Recorded mintage: 720,000.
Specification: 5.67 g, 25.5 mm diameter, bronze.
