This specimen was lot 1179 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $8,625. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Carlos III, 1759-1788. 8 Escudos, 1769 Mo MF. Mexico City. Young armored bust r. Rv. Crowned small shield in Collar of the Golden Fleece. A scarce type and date showing pleasing strike and overall detail. Very Fine." This type was struck 1762-71; despite the long span of issue all dates are rare.
