This specimen was lot 1328 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,620. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Double Louis d'or au bandeau, 1759-9 (Rennes). Louis XV. PCGS graded About Uncirculated Detail (Scratch)." This type was struck in France 1742-73 in some numbers. The type is common altho most individual dates are rare. The Rennes mint struck this type 1742-45, 1747, 1749-72 with most dates being very rare. This is one of the more available.

Recorded mintage: 28,796[2].

Specification: 16.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 28-29 mm diameter, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
