Sincona sale 63, lot 1754

This specimen was lot 1754 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$125 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Elizabeth, 1741-1761. 5 Kopecks 1761, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB. Rare. Very fine." This type was struck 1756-61 for the empress Elizabeth. The next silver five kopeks would not be issued until 1797, after the death of Catherine the Great. In the intervening years, large quantities of copper five kopeks were struck at numerous mints.

Recorded mintage: 300,000.

Specification: 1.21 g, 0.802 fine silver, this specimen 1.24 g.
