Revision as of 15:37, 20 October 2024
This specimen was lot 2152 in Sincona sale 33 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 35 CHF (about US$42 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Friedrich, 1735-1746 Pfennig 1740. Münzmeister Christoph Lorenz Ruckdeschel. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, Frederick I, 1735-46, pfennig of 1740, mintmaster Christoph Lorenz Ruckdeschel. Rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
The type is recorded in the SCWC for 1735-50 with a low catalog value, like many rare minors. Altho the auction catalog listed this specimen as a 1740, Ruckdeschel's term did not begin until 1742, so we have catalogued it as a 1749. The last billon pfennig was issued in 1783.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen 1.00 g.
