This specimen was lot 1775 in Sincona sale 38 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 5,750 CHF (about US$6,896 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Danzig, Stadt, Dukat 1688. Titel Johann III. von Polen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Übliche Prägeschwäche. (city of Danzig, ducat of 1688, in the name of John III Sobieski of Poland. Rare in this condition. Extremely fine-uncirculated. Usual weak spot.)"
Ducats were struck all over Europe as trade coins. This Polish issue is known dated 1683 and 1688. It has the same Friedberg number as the issue of 1677 and 1682 despite the obvious differences in design.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, .986 fine, this specimen 3.49 g.
