Luxembourg 1641 escalin

Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1726

This specimen was lot 1726 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €420 (about US$599 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR escalin, 1641, Luxembourg. D/ Lion deb. à g., ten. une épée et un écu d'Autriche-Bourgogne. R/ Ecu couronné sur une croix de Bourgogne. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Luxembourg, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver escalin of 1641, Luxemburg mint. Obverse: lion rampant left, bearing a sword and the arms of Austria-Burgundy; reverse: crowned arms over a Burgundian cross. Rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"

This escalin or schelling is listed in the SCWC for 1637 only. Similar (and more common) escalins were made at made at Brussels, Tournai, Antwerp, s'Hertogenbosch and Maastricht.
