The first libra coins were minted in 1898, to the same standard as the British sovereign (113 grains of pure gold). The Peruvian pound of gold was struck in three denominations: one pound, 1/2 pound, 1/5 pound, showing on the obverse the crowned profile of an Inca with mascaypacha facing right, and on the back Peru's National Shield. The coins of 1/5 pound was minted in the years 1906-1930, 1953, 1955, 1958-1969.
