This specimen was lot 30587 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Baden. Leopold I gold Ducat 1848 MS63+ PCGS. With inverted '1' in date. Sharply struck, with a frosted portrait of Leopold contrasting gently against shimmering and decidedly prooflike fields behind. Rarely found better, and notably the finest and only example certified by PCGS." This type was struck 1847-52; all dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 1,590.
Specification: 3.66 g, 0.938 fine gold.
