This specimen was lot 34255 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "India: Mysore. Tipu Sultan 2 Rupees AH 1199 Year 3 (1784/1785) AU58 NGC, Patan mint. A relatively scarce denomination from this prominent princely ruler, a bit soft atop the calligraphy, which, however preserves a bold relief alongside lightly toned argent surfaces." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. This type was struck years 2-6 and is very rare.
