Stack's Bowers 2026 ANA sale, lot 42444
SB826-42444r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42444 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $12,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Enticing Premium Gem Nur Jahan 1/2 Rupee, INDIA. Mughal Empire. 1/2 Rupee, AH 1034 Year 20 (1624/5). Surat Mint. In the name of Nur Jahan and Jahangir. NGC MS-66. Sad Zewar poetic couplet. A stunning example of the RARE and always demanded type from the Nur Jahan series, offering sparkling luster and a nearly flawless state of preservation. This example sits perched atop the NGC census, and is certain to attract a strong bid, particularly when considering how difficult fractional issues of Nur Jahan in strong mint state grades like this are. Compare this example with an MS-65 graded representative of Nur Jahan from AH 1034 Year 19 which realized a final price of $9,600 in our January 2024 NYINC Sale as lot # 54109." Surat was one of seven mints to strike this rather scarce type which mentions Jahangir's queen, Nur Jahan. It is known for years 19 thru 21.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.72 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-167.2.
