Sincona 102-5201r.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 5201 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$211 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 12 Sols 1590, Genf. 6 Sols 1590. Notmünzen. Lot von 2 Stück. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, twelve sols and six sols of 1590, Geneva mint, token issue. Very Fine-Extremely Fine, two pieces.)"

This and the accompanying twelve sols were struck for soldiers' pay. We haven't ascertained the specifics of this issue but the city of Geneva was in frequent conflict with the neighboring duke of Savoy.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: Demole 385, HMZ 2-300a.
