Sincona sale 91, lot 3425

This specimen was lot 3425 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$6,277 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Dicken 1626, Schaffhausen. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Fast vorzüglich. Kleines Zainende. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 39, Zürich, Mai 2017, Los 4719. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, dicken of 1626, Schaffhausen mint. Very rare, especially in this condition, About extremely fine, Minor edge clip.)"

This type was struck 1626-27 (rare) and 1631-34 (fairly common). A dicken was roughly a quarter thaler. The city arms depict an ibex leaping, sometimes by itself or out of a castle window (as here).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 7.64 g.
