Sincona sale 63, lot 918
from the Mountain Groan Collection
France 1820A 2 francs rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 918 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$564 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, konigreich, Louis XVIII. 1814-1824. 2 Francs 1820 A, Paris. Gutes vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XVIII, 1814-24, two francs of 1820, Paris mint. Good extremely fine.)"

This type was struck during the reign of Louis XVIII of France (1815-24) from numerous mints. The specimen shown is from Paris and is a fairly common date, being priced about 40% higher than the commonest date (1821-A).

Recorded mintage: 52,601.

Specification: 27 mm diameter, 10 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879, the first specimen 9.96 g.

Catalog reference: F.257/27, KM 710.1, Gadoury 513.
