This type was struck at numerous mints during the reign of Louis XVIII (1814-24). This specimen is from Paris and is considered common. The type is not difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. A complete set comprises 96 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. All French silver five francs were officially recalled in 1928, but ceased to circulate after World War I.
Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by August François Michaut, 1786-1879.
Mintage: 3,225,037 (priced about about 20% higher than the commonest date).
