This specimen was lot 23644 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 2 Escudos 1781-JJ Nuevo Reino, MS61 NGC, well-struck and attractive with nearly full mint luster. Very scarce when certified as mint state." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1772-84 and is probably the most common two escudos of colonial Latin America.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.901 fine gold, .196 troy oz AGW.
