Künker sale 294, lot 3209

This specimen was lot 3209 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,413 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Karl XI. 1660-1697. Dukat 1683, Stockholm. GOLD. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles XI, 1660-97, ducat of 1683, Stockholm mint. Very rare, slightly bent, very fine. This rare issue is known for 1683 only. Unlike other ducats of this reign, the king's bust is unarmored and faces right.)"

This type was struck 1677-95.

Recorded mintage: 11,000.

Specification: 3.48 g, .972 fine gold, this specimen 3.44 g.

Catalog reference: Ahlström 38 (XR); Fr-45; KM 283.
