This specimen was lot 1733 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $178.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAVOY: Emanuele Filiberto, 1553-1580, AR 4 grossi, 1556, lustrous, nice strike, Choice EF, ex SARC Auction 33, Lot 2134." None of the silver or gold coins of Savoy of the sixteenth century can be called common. Savoy was not one of the prosperous regions of Italy like Milan or Tuscany. In 1714, the duke's successful participation in the War of the Spanish Succession garnered him the island of Sicily, which he traded for Sardinia in 1720.
