Sincona sale 34, lot 4084

This specimen was lot 4084 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,374 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Rudolf II. 1576-1612 Taler 1610. Prag Münzmeister Benedikt Huebmer. Sehr selten. Sehr schön, Dunkle Tönung. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1610, Prague mint, mintmaster Benedikt Huebmer. Very rare, Very fine, dark toning.)"

This type was struck 1603-11 and is scarce. The SCWC has filed this type under Bohemia but we have followed tradition and placed this under Austria. A klippe version of this thaler also exists but is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.01 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3019; Dietiker 390. Voglh. 104/IV, KM 25 (listed under Bohemia).
