This specimen was lot 2980 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$640 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1885, Wien. Vorzüglich. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1885, Vienna mint. Extremely fine.)"
Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This design was struck 1872-1915 without mintmark and is common. The 1915 has been restruck and is readily available for its bullion value.
Recorded mintage: 257,000.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 19.8 mm diameter, this specimen 3.48 g.
