Sincona sale 75, lot 229

This specimen was lot 229 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 7,000 CHF (about US$8,497 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Grossbritannien | Königreich. George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1756, London. Old laureate head. NGC MS61. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung mit feinem Prägeglanz. Kleine Kratzer. (Uncirculated, Extraordinary condition with nice mint lustre, Small scratches.)"

The guineas of George II come in many varieties and this one, struck 1747-60, is the fifth. All dates are scarce but this is probably the most available guinea of this ruler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.917 fine gold, .246 troy oz AGW, this specimen 8.45 g.
