Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72355

This specimen was lot 72355 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pence, 1756. London Mint. George II. NGC MS-63. An attractive Choice piece boasting deep magenta gray cabinet tone demonstrating hints of iridescence when dipped under a light. With original surfaces and few marks or nicks to speak of, technical excellence is offered for the grade along with stalwart eye appeal." Maundy sets comprised silver one, two, three and fourpence but we don't know if this example was struck for the sets. This type was struck 1729-32, 1735-40, 1743, 1746, 1756-60.
