Sincona sale 88, lot 101

This specimen was lot 101 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Shahrokh, 1st reign, 1161-1163 AH (1748-1750). Rupi 1162 AH (1749), Shiraz Mint. Sehr selten, Vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; Very rare. Extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from A. Shams, Frankfurt, in 1983."

Shahrokh survived the immediate turmoil after Nader's assassination and sat on the throne three times, AH 1161-63, AH 1163-66 and AH 1168-1210. He was finally murdered in 1796 after the Qajar takeover. This rupi was struck AH 1161-62 at Shiraz and five other mints.
