Ireland 1954 shilling rev DSLR.jpg

The first Irish shillings, issued 1928-37, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second type, issued 1939-42, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (shown here), issued 1951-68, was copper-nickel. This date is common tho the proofs are rare.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, 23.6 mm diameter, copper-nickel.

Catalog reference: KM 14a.
