This specimen was lot 31850 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran: Muhammad Reza Pahlavi gold 2-1/2 Pahlavi SH 1354 (1975) MS67+ NGC. A truly astounding issue, the piece displays a mesmerizing lustrous brilliance with clear flow lines visible throughout the fields. Cartwheel luster glides effortlessly over the surfaces, which simultaneously exhibit an impressive wateriness worthy of extensive inspection. Among the very finest known of the issue, and the finest seen by NGC, the next-highest being a single example grading MS66." This type, struck SH 1354-55 and MS 2536-2537 during the reign of Muhammed Reza Shah (r. 1941-79), was minted to the standard of 2½ British sovereigns. Gold one, five (Fr-99) and ten pahlavis also exist. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
