CNG Lissner sale, lot 595

This specimen was lot 595 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $665.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY, Regno d'Italia. Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1946. AR 2 Lire. Rome mint. Dated 1911 R. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 62. Lovely UNC with very light iridescent patina overall. Claims to a higher grade." This two lire, struck on the fiftieth anniversary of the reunification of Italy, is rather scarce. The last full weight two lire was struck in 1917.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, 26 mm diameter. This specimen Ø26 mm, 10.06 g, 12h axis.

Catalog reference: KM 52; Mont 152.
