This specimen was lot 227 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $181.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Christian X. 1912-1947. AR 2 Kroner. Commemorating the king’s 75th birthday, København (Copenhagen) mint. Niels Peter Nielsen, mintmaster. Harald Solomon, engraver. Dated 1945 N S. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66 Gem uncirculated with a hint of patina on the borders. Highest ever graded. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, August 1981." The two kroner was converted to aluminum bronze in 1924 and struck to that standard until 1959. Commemoratives, such as this one, continued to be issued in silver. This one celebrates the departure of the Nazis and the return of peace.
