This specimen was part of lot 1207 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), which sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "KEELING COCOS ISLANDS. 5 Cents to 5 Rupees Denomination Set, 1913. KM-Tn1-Tn7. 7 pieces in lot. A complete set issued by Captain John Clunies-Ross. An interesting group, highly collectible. Serial numbers as follows: 5 Cents, 1564; 10 Cents, 1190; 25 Cents, 2172; 50 Cents, 143; Rupee, 1444; 2 Rupees, 206; and 5 Rupees, 396. RARELY seen as a whole set at auction. Especially nice quality as these are often found with many dings or bit marks from teeth. VERY FINE." This obscure group of coral atolls in the Indian Ocean would be of little interest to numismatists except for this series of ivory tokens issued by the proprietor, Clunies-Ross. These tokens are perennial favorites of collectors of "odd and curious" coinage and are not cheap.
Recorded mintage: 1,000.
Specification: ivory.
Catalog reference: KM Tn7.
