This specimen was lot 23323 in Heritage sale 3012 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $5,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro I 960 Reis 1827R, XF45 NGC, lightly toned and attractive with bold details, struck over an earlier coin but with only faint ghosting visible. Rare date. From The Guariba Collection of Brazilian Coins." The overstamping of Spanish colonial pesos began with great enthusiasm in 1810 but was dwindling by the mid 1820's as the rising price of silver dried up the supply.
Recorded mintage: unknown but few.
Specification: 26.89 g, 0.896 fine silver, .775 troy oz ASW.
