This specimen was lot 33362 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $5,760. The lot description[1] noted, "Brazil. Pedro I gold 6400 Reis 1827-R AU Details (Obverse Graffiti) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint. A very scarce gold type produced in an original mintage numbering only 637 examples. Ample remnant detail abounds this survivor, with scattered originality still shining through the recesses of the legends." This gold 6400 réis or peça was minted at the Rio and Bahia mints 1823-30. All the dates are rare. It is nearly the last of a denomination introduced in Brazil in 1727.
