This specimen was lot 40092 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. 100 Markkaa, 1926-S. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder." Finland obtained her independence from Russia in 1917-18 but still struggled financially. This gold hundred markkaa is smaller than the old tsarist twenty markkaa. This and an accompanying two hundred markkaa (KM 29) are the only circulating gold issues of the republic.
Recorded mintage: 50,000.
Specification: 4.21 g, 0.900 fine gold, 18.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: Fr-8; KM-28; Sieg-83.
