This specimen was lot 5408 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $253. The catalog description [2] noted, "Seychelles. Rupee, 1939. George VI. NGC graded MS-64. The Judy Cahn Collection." This one year type is from the first series of coinage issued for the Seychelles in 1939, which also included a half rupee, ten and twenty-five cent pieces. It is the only silver rupee from the islands and is rather scarce.
Recorded mintage: 90,000.
Specification: 11.66 g, 0.500 fine silver.
