This specimen was lot 3575 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$7,873 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN, SARDINIEN, Karl Emanuel III. 1730-1773. Doppia 1764, Turin. GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Emmanuel III, 1730-73, doppia of 1764, Turin mint. Very scarce, especially in this quality, cabinet example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1755-72 with all dates listed as rare. Altho doppia means "double," this coin is not a double ducat but a double scudo d'oro so we have excluded it from our category of gold ducats.
Recorded mintage: 963,099 for 1755-72.
Specification: 9.64 g, 0.905 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, this specimen 9.60 g.
Catalog reference: KM 51, Fr-1105; Cudazzo 943 i (R2).
