Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 2094

This specimen was lot 2094 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$442 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, HOLLAND, Provincie, AV dukaat met de ridder, 1754. Vz/ Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en pijlenbundel. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Holland, ducat of 1754. Obverse: knight stands right with sword and bundle of arrows; reverse: text in square tablet. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

The type is recorded from Holland 1702-92; each province of the Netherlands issued its own coins. Holland was the largest and wealthiest part of the United Provinces, now the kingdom of the Netherlands.
