This specimen was lot 2492 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"2 Lire 1942, An XX. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, two lire of 1942, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck for the kingdom of Italy 1936-43. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1934 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists, whose symbol appears on the reverse. The issues of 1939-41 are readily available but those of 1942-43 are scarce, stainless steel being needed for the war which Italy was losing.
