Great Britain 1750 farthing

Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75635

This specimen was lot 75635 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing (1/4 Penny), 1750. London Mint. PCGS MS-62 Brown. From the Richard August Collection." This type is listed for 1746, 1749-50 and 1754 and is fairly common in worn condition. The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
