This specimen was lot 74518 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "COOK ISLANDS. Gold High Relief 250 Dollars, 2022. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Legacy of the Pharaohs." This design was used to strike KM 3339a in silver. The Cook Islands, like many small, impoverished nations, has contracted with private mints to produce and market a large variety of commemoratives marketed in lands far from the issuing country. The inhabitants of the Cook Islands (pop. 15,000 in 2021) in the Pacific use the New Zealand dollar and the commemoratives are not legal tender there.
Recorded mintage: 199.
Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 33 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM-3339.
