Cook Islands 2021 5 dollars KM-3086
This specimen was lot 33156 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "COOK ISLANDS. 5 Dollars, 2021. Elizabeth II. GEM UNCIRCULATED. Mintage: Roman Empire series: Brutus. Struck in antiqued silver, this issue channels one of the most famous Roman coins ever--the Eid Mar Denarius of Brutus (a type that alludes to the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.)." The edition of the SCWC in our possession does not list this issue so we take the auctioneer's attribution on faith. The private mint in Liechtenstein which held the concession from the Cook Islands issued a series of "Numismatic Icons" which included this design, an Athenian owl and denarii of Aurelian, Hadrian, Julius Caesar, Marcus Aurelius, Constantine, Tiberius, Titus, Trajan and Valentinian III.
Recorded mintage: 500.
Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, 1 oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM-3086.
