This specimen was lot 1400 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it sold for 2,900 euro (about US$4,462 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLOGNE, Sigismond III Wasa (1587-1632), AV ducat, 1595, Danzig. Droit : B. cour. et cuirassé à droite, une grande fraise au col. Revers : Ecu de Danzig tenu par deux lions. Au-dessus, monogramme PK (P. Klüwers). Très Rare. Le flan légèrement ondulé. Superbe. (Poland, Sigismund III Vasa (1587-1632), gold ducat of 1595, Danzig mint. Obverse: crowned and armored bust to right with large ruffed collar. Reverse: two lions support the arms of Danzig, PK monogram below. Very rare, slightly wavy flan, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck with several subtypes 1588-1632. Its long reign of production make it among the more available Polish ducats.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, .986 gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3,49 g.
