This specimen was lot 1417 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,624 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SAINT EMPIRE, Ferdinand Ier (1521-1564), AV ducat, 1563, Vienne. D/ L'empereur deb. de f., en cuirasse, ten. un sceptre et un gl. cr. R/ Ecu écartelé de Hongrie et Bohême, Autriche sur le tout. Rare Petites taches au droit. Légère trace de pliure. Très Beau à Superbe. (Austria, Ferdinand I, 1521-64, gold ducat of 1563, Vienna mint. Obverse: the emperor facing, in full armor, bearing a scepter and an orb; reverse: quartered arms of Hungary and Bohemia, Austria above all. Rare, minor nicks on the obverse, lightly creased, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck intermittently 1528-64 and undated. It is the first Austrian ducat that is common.
