Sincona sale 6, lot 1975

This specimen was lot 1975 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$677 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Rudolf II. 1576-1612. Taler 1607, Prag. Geharnischtes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekrönter Doppeladler mit gekröntem Wappen auf der Brust. Kl. Schrötlingsr. und Prägeschwäche. Sehr schön. (Austria, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1607, Prague mint. Obverse: armored bust to right; reverse: crowned double-headed eagle with shield on breast, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1603-11 and is scarce. The SCWC has filed this type under Bohemia but we have followed tradition and placed this under Austria. A klippe version of this thaler also exists but is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver; this specimen is 28,68 g.

Catalog reference: Diet. 387, KM 25 (was KM 1307), Dav-3019.
