Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73022
SB222-73022r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73022 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Florin, 1914. London Mint. George V. NGC AU-55. A nice lightly circulated example of an earlier date, this piece is effuse with mint bloom and a pale sauvignon blanc tone near the edge." The type was issued 1911-36 with Melbourne being the sole producer after 1926. This London date is somewhat scarce; a Heaton issue exists for 1914 but is rare.

Recorded mintage: 2,300,000, a better date.

Specification: 11.31 g, 0.925 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-27.
