Künker sale 406, lot 3571

This specimen was lot 3571 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, GENUA, Republik (Dogi Biennali), 1528-1797. 24 Lire 1795. GOLD. R Feine Goldpatina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Italy, republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, 24 lire of 1795. Rare, fine gold patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is a rare type struck 1793 and 1795 in the last years of the republic. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon and converted into the Ligurian Republic; she never recovered her independence. In 1815, Metternich awarded Genoa to Sardinia and, as part of that kingdom, Genoa followed Sardinia into the kingdom of Italy during the unification of 1860-61.
