This specimen was lot 1455 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 32,000 CHF (about US$2,573 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY | Königreich. Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1946. 10 Lire 1926 R, Roma. Äusserst selten. Nur 40 Exemplare geprägt. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar mit feinem Prägeglanz. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-46, ten lire of 1926, Rome mint. Extremely rare. Only 40 pieces struck, Cabinet piece with nice mint luster.)"
This type, the last gold ten lire, was struck in tiny numbers 1910, 1912 and 1926-27. Silver ten lire from the twenties (KM 68) are much more available. The king, an avid numismatist, likely had these struck for himself and his friends in the coin club.
